To be fair, a lot of the more extravagant place names you’ll find here were just made up by snooty English landlords who, bizarrely, wanted to attract tourists by giving places really stupid names, like “Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch”. I mean, seriously, I know a lot of people find Welsh names difficult to pronounce (some letters that are considered consonants in English, like “w” and “y”, are vowels in Welsh, and different combinations of letters make different sounds), but thats just ridiculous.
Brilliant. You should avoid holidaying in Wales!

Lloyd, I’ve read a theory that long, tricky names in Wales were meant as a deterrent for invasion.
