Hey, there’s a huge chunk of procedural courtroom banter missing here! Marty is fully entitled to his rights to a fair and justifiably ridiculous trial!
It may not have been a compliment, but I bet Marty’s been told that enough times that he just takes it in stride now.
I mean, after all, his grasp of logic is demented…
Fairness might not have anything to do with law, but it has plenty to do with mercy, which is exactly as much the court’s responsibility as justice is.
Some famous bloke once said that justice without mercy is not justice at all… it is cruelty. Compassion does not negate justice, it fulfills it.
Ignorance of the law may not be an excuse to break the law, but it may be an excuse to show lenience, particularly when no real harm has been done and the accused has demonstrated a genuine intent to not repeat the offense. *THAT* is justice.
(okay… I may be taking this webcomic a bit too seriously… it’s Lego, for crying out loud)
I think that the fact that the comic is made of LEGO bricks is perhaps one of the more serious things about it. There’s a whole host of other reasons you shouldn’t be taking it this seriously.

I wouldn’t want to be judged by a jury of my peers. Most of my peers are complete assholes.

I’m sure… I sometimes can just get waaaaay more philosophical than the situation warrants.
Sorry… My wife tells me it’s an aspie thing.
