Bob could send Lt. Lor. Nobody would ever expect an accountant to be the secret backup. Besides, Johnny probably has so much holodeck debt accumulated that Lt. Lor couldn’t allow anything to happen to him before he pays it off. 🙂
Bob could send Larry or Gary as backup. Gary could probably use the extra food reserves for the ship, anyway, and Larry would be useful for healing and resurrection! 😀 He’d also be good for when there’s just one enemy too many, he could do that special attack that makes everyone need new pants! 😀
As for whether he’s still on board the Muffin? Who cares, if it fits the storyline use it! 😀

OR, you could get 2 backups, and tell him about 1….the one that’s really a “throw-away” backup.
Of course, knowing Johnny, he might get confused and “out” the real backup and manage to keep the throw away backup….wouldn’t THAT be fun.
