Biography

Early Childhood
Asay Lor had only vague memories of his early childhood when his family lived on their home planet. Asay was with his parents on a camping trip on Earth when they were killed. Asay claims it was a freak potato salad accident, but since he was so young no one is really sure whether to believe him or not. Asay was found and raised by a group of wild humans who had "returned to humanity's roots". They were living in a remote commune using only pre-industrial revolution technology. Asay was accepted as one of the group, but since the community had such a loose cohesion and no real structure or order, Asay never felt he was able to find his place and therefore left when he was old enough.

Secondary Education
Asay Lor traveled around the Appalachian region for a time, but as he had no money, his options very limited. Asay eventually learned about the Alliance and how they would pay for his education if he enlisted. Almost immediately Asay knew had had made the correct decision to join the Alliance as it had the structure and order that the Shistavanen feel is necessary in their lives. Initially Asay studied engineering because he remembered that his father had "made things' and he wanted to follow in his footsteps. But it soon became clear that Asay didn't have what it took for advanced mathematics. His college counselor told Asay Lor that he thought Asay had a natural understanding of business and that he should consider changing majors. So Asay Lor took his counselor's advice. Asay found he actually enjoyed business and excelled at accounting and graduated with an MBA specializing in accounting.

2350 and Beyond
After graduation Asay Lor was assigned to the Finance Committee. For the first three years or so he processed mundane accounts and budgets but soon noticed what hethought were some oddities with an Alliance supplier's billing. On his own initiative Asay decided to dig deeper and uncovered that the Alliance was being defrauded out of millions of credits. This lead to his promotion to lieutenant and his first posting aboard an Alliance starship, the Muffin. Asay was told that he would be assigned an assistant since he would be handling the accounts of several ships and not just the Muffin. Asay requested Ensign Rong as they had worked together before and they got along well. After joining the crew of the Muffin, Asay came to realize just how big of a task he and Ensign Rong had been given. Together they have spent their time just focusing on the Muffin before tackling any other ship's budget. He determined that only Commander Belinda Reines and Gary the Cook knew that their departments had budgets.

Further, Asay learned that only Gary has actually been running his dept. (the galley) under budget and is somewhat confused as to how Gary has been doing it considering the wide variety of meat dishes he has been serving. Asay was not sure he wanted to know. Asay Lor was pretty happy with his life but he did want to someday return to his homeworld to see if he had any living relatives.

Personality Traits

Asay Lor had a great sense of humor and loved good puns. Although he would laugh at raunchy jokes, he himself rarely told them as he felt it took real wit to tell funny jokes or stories and keep them clean. Asay was always looking for a way for him to slip a clean pun into a conversation. Asay in general got along well with people but tended to keep things professional. He was slow letting people get close to him, but if they did, they had a friend for life. As such, Asay was just as likely to be found reading in a corner of the bar as he was chatting with other people there.

Associations

Although Asay Lor was on friendly terms with a number of the crew, Ensign Rong was really the only person among the crew he considers a close friend.

Behind the Scenes

Asay Lor was created by SaylorA (aka A Saylor) when Dr Legostar had a contest involving a Clue game in the holodeck and SaylorA was the first person with the correct answer. He is VERY loosely based upon SaylorA.
