Major Jovica "Johnny" Danger

"Let's go back to my place and do things I'll tell people we did anyway."--Johnny hitting on a woman.

Johnny Danger is the pilot of the Alliance Starship Muffin. His attitude toward women leads him into a lot of pain and suffering, mostly because they hurt him. He is crass and somewhat dense, though his space piloting skills are exceptional his air based flying skills tend to be hindered by things like the ground. He is a loyal and devoted crew member but easily coerced by good looking women.

Biography

Early Childhood

Jovica Johnathan Danger is the son of Jelena and Dusan (Pronounced Dushan) Danger. Jelena and Dusan moved to Tau Ceti 5 from Serbia (on Earth) before Johnny was born, changing their name from Dangerovic to Danger and giving their son a middle name common to Tau Ceti 5, Johnny. They still call him Jovi, short for Jovica, the Serbian equivalent to John. Though Johnny was raised in a Serbian household the predominant culture of Tau Ceti 5 was drastically different, so he did not grow up with the traditional Serbian upbringing his parents would have intended.
Johnny would like to think he was extremely successful with women in high school and maintains the attitude he had then that women find him attractive and awesome. He did manage to go out on some dates and have some girlfriends during his life, however he spent most of his time pining for women he never had a chance with, mostly because of his attitude.

Secondary Education

In an attempt to look "even cooler" to women Johnny joined the Alliance Air and Space Force to become a pilot. He had been, to some degree, interested in flight, however it was more out of an interest in being "a man in uniform" that he joined the Air and Space Force. The fact that he might be an abysmal pilot never really entered his mind. To a degree it still hasn't.
Flight caused Johnny many problems, or rather the cessation of flight, when he hit the ground, or a building, or some other land based object caused Johnny many problems. It was this that lead his superiors to suggest Johnny concentrate more on space flight as he was less likely to hit things. He still managed to find things to run into, but the general situation was much improved.
After attaining the rank of Captain the Air and Space Force suggested that perhaps Johnny could do a stint in the Alliance Navy through the Intraservice Program, but mostly they just wanted to get rid of him. During his time in the Navy Johnny was transferred several times and promoted once and finally landed the position of helmsman on the Muffin.

Personality Traits

Johnny has inherited his people's machismo, but sadly none of their common sense. He would be considered an excellent pilot if things like planets, asteroids, or space for that matter, didn't get in his way. He is far too friendly to most women and can't seem to wrap his brain around the concept that maybe they would just prefer conversation rather than him hitting on them.

Associations

Johnny was married briefly to a Serbian Robot Bride named Robotija that his mother arranged for him. He also maintains a close but somewhat strained relationship with his parents.

Behind the Scenes

  • Johnny's personality is loosely based on several people The Author knew in highschool and college who either had no ability with women or had no ability but were convinced they were suave and debonair.
  • The Serbian aspects of Johnny's heritage are partially based on the Author's own life and family, but not directly, and mostly exaggerated.
  • Johnny's planet of birth is a reference to a world of similar name in System Shock 2.
