Pass the Mustard

Plot Synopsis

The crew encounter the synari and start a war.

Plot Summary

A ship hails the Muffin and requests mustard from them. The crew discovers that they are the Synari and Marty, TAG, and Red go on an away mission to the ship to attempt a negotiation. They are, however, stalled when they brought no way to translate the Synari language with them.
In trying to communicate Marty speculates about trading the mustard that has been requested for porn, but when he can't understand them even after speaking louder and slower the synari draws a weapon on them. Once fired the weapon actually arcs over Marty and TAG and hits Red full in the chest, killing him. The synari is confused, but Marty and TAG espouse the benefits of having Red around.
Contacting the Muffin the synari captain takes Marty hostage and demands what he has asked for. In shooting Marty however the beam from his weapon turns 180 degrees and hits Red, again. This prompts much speculation from the synari about Red's power.
Back on the ship Captain Smith debriefs Marty and speculates on how Marty managed to offend the synari and create a new enemy for the Alliance, along with getting Red shot and killed, twice. Marty suggests that as he didn't die he had a fairly good day.
