Hyper Drive
Hyper Drive was a form of faster than light travel that utilized Hyperspace conduits that were mapped out across the galaxy. It was superior in speed to Warp Drive, but was far more restrictive of possible destinations.

History
When Hyper Drive was first designed it was found to be highly unpredictable without charted routes and thus hundreds were mapped out across the galaxy to facilitate incredibly fast travel.
Construction
Hyper Drives utilized a dimensional technology which allowed a ship to tear a whole in the fabric of normal space-time into hyperspace.
