Geography

Alpha Centauri was a barren rock. All of the human colonial interests on the planet were contained in structures built onto or into the surface of the planet and no terraforming was ever attempted.

History

When the humans of Earth first spread out into the galaxy, Alpha Centauri was the first planet outside their solar system they found and settled. Much like Mars or Earth's own moon, Alpha Centauri had no atmosphere. Encapsulated colonies, like those built on Earth's moon, were built and Alpha Centauri became a way station for further exploration of the galaxy.
