Honestly, I don’t see why “we can’t blow up the ship” is a good excuse for not opening fire. They don’t need to blow up the ship, just hole it a few dozen times. Creepius would probably survive, but the Rath would all asphyxiate. Or destroy the engines, so that the exact thing that appears to be happening would have been impossible.
